Our cutting-edge P3 Industrial was specified by LNW Consulting Engineers and Project Managers to restore a concrete culvert that was damaged by fire at Seriti Kriel Colliery.
The primary concern was that the integrity and durability of the concrete structure had been compromised. Mechanical and chemical changes in the concrete makeup could lead to spalling, thermal expansion and dehydration.
AMTEC treated the entire 560m² surface area of the concrete culvert with our colloidal silica post-placement pozzolan technology. It penetrated the available concrete capillary void space and purged any residue or contaminants. By filling the capillary pore space with calcium silicate hydrate as it reacts with available free alkali, our technology raised the durability of the concrete to acceptable levels and, in doing so, prolonging the lifecycle of the structure.
